Summer
June
21, 2011
Summer is officially here and the heat is on! From high mountain
trout steams downstream to smallie rivers the action is very
hot. The local trout streams are full of water and the fish
are very active.
The local Wild streams have
been fishing very well and as usual mid day sunshine brings these fish
to the surface in search of the latest hatch. Fishing the wild
streams this time of year can be a great experience. Solitude,
rising wild trout and flowing mountain streams a wait you.
The Delayed Harvest Streams in NC changed over
to
Catch
and
Keep,
No bait or lure restrictions on June 4th.
These streams have been pretty well cleaned out by now. Still a
few hold overs but for the most part you should look else where for
trout.
Smallmouth Streams and Rivers are on fire!! The
smallie top water bite is getting more and more consistent
everyday. These hard fighting smallies are on the prowl looking
for food. Good presentation is the trick to catching them.
Now is the time for top water smallie action.
Tennessee Tailraces
The Watauga and South Holston Rivers
continue to
produce great days with good numbers of big fish. The best way to
reach these big boys and girls is by drifting to them by boat.
Double nymph rigs continue to prove hard to beat but for the big fish
we recommend working heavy streamers during generation. During
periods of no generation, we've had some blue wing olive hatches and
lots of dry fly action. Caddis patterns in size 18-22 continue to
fool
them on a regular basis.
What's around the bend....
Several months of top water smallie action is in the
forecast. Also Summer brings terrestrials to the trout
streams. Hoppers, ants and beetles! This is a great time of
year to "plop" a beetle into your favorite trout stream.
The TN Tailraces will continue to fish good through the Summer
months Nice mix of late day dry fly
action...... big caddis hatches are over for the most part but
these are great streams to fish your favorite terrestrial.
We're offering guided full day wade, half day wade and full day float
trips on
several of the DH streams, as well as full day floats on the TN
Tailraces. Spend a day with one of our guides to find out what
all the fuse is about. Book your trip today via our on-line fly shop.
